Youth Group and Confirmation Class

There is a meeting Sunday, November 20 at 5:30pm until 7:30pm. Everyone who attended last meeting was given a saint and had to get a few facts about that saint. Everyone pick saints that show interest to them. (Example: the patron saint of knee injuries is St. Roch.)

Also, we are asking that everyone bring some type of snack and 2 litter of pop. Doesn't have to be this Sunday but remember this during the year.

November 23, Thanksgiving Mass. The confirmation class is to attend this Mass. We will be meeting at 6:30pm to prepare.

December 11 is Parent's afternoon out. Everyone is to meet at the church hall by 10:30am. We need to prepare before the children get there.

January 22 - 25 we will be traveling for the March for Life in DC. I need to know who is interested. We will be sleeping at a church. The cost is $120 however the youth group and other donations will reduce this cost. I need to know if you are interested in going by December 19.

And They're Off!

We are off to a good start this year. On November 7, three members of our youth group are attending a retreat. We pray that God touches their hearts during this wonderful experience.

Reminder that we have moved the youth group meetings to Sunday. We meet from 5:30pm - 7:30pm. However, we will not be meeting on November 7. Anyone who walks, rides their bike, skate boards or mopeds to the meeting and is expecting to go home the same way.... NEEDS A NOTE from a parent. No exceptions. With everything that has happened in our community, we want to make sure that everyone gets home safely and parents are OK with you going home in the dark that way.

Last meeting we noticed some behavior that is unacceptable. Failure to follow the rules of the group and our church can and will result in you not being able to attend the meetings or outings. For the confirmation class.... that means that you are jeopardizing your confirmation. This is a great group that has done great things. Let's stay focused.

The purpose of the youth group is to have fellowship with one another and to grow our relationship with God.

We will have an outing on November 6 (The cost is $7.00). We will be meeting at the church at 10:30am and going out to lunch for pizza and then going to the Shrine of Christs Passion in St. John. We should be back at the church by 3:30pm. There is a beautiful gift shop at the Shrine. Bring extra money. Families are welcome. Just let Heather know. We have to make arrangements.

Ready or Not Here We Come

Reminder that youth group meetings are now on SUNDAY evening at 5:30pm. I hope this works for everyone. My work schedule has become extremely busy and now demand that I stay at work later in the day. Sundays have always been a day of rest or family day for us. So I see it best fitting that we focus on our church family. This year is our spiritual year. We are looking for to some fun retreats, events and fellowship.

We are having a fundraiser this year. This will help pay for the March for Life, outings and retreats. We will be selling Schwan's foods and they will be picked up on October 15.

On Oct 15 we have been asked to help with packing up the rummage sale for goodwill. I would love to see everyone at this project. For the confirmation students.... SERVICE HOURS!!!

I am really looking forward to this year. We are going to have a great year. See you on Sunday at 5:30pm.

Summer is Upon Us

On June 21, the youth group embarked on a trip they have waited 2 years for. We went to Great America! A group of 34, consisting of 26 youth and 8 adults, left the Wheatfield area and drove through some exciting weather conditions. Once we arrived at Great America the weather was sunny and the excitement of the group could not be contained.

We busted through the ticket booth, patiently waited to have our bags inspected and successfully passed through the metal detectors. We were then greeted by Loony Tunes characters just waiting us with their personal photographers. The the barrage of paparazzi was there to catch our groups as we discussed our plans to ride the roller coasters and visit the water park.

As a group, we decided to meet at 3pm so that we could have something to eat and for the leaders verification that we still have everyone. Success! Everyone showed up, we ate and set another plan to once again ride the rides. Some of our members told stories on how they have never ridden on a roller coaster and loved it! Jessica wins the award for trying anything her group threw at her. Nerves of steel!

In the end we met up at 7 ish, had another sandwich before we headed on our journey home. Within about 10 minutes on the road, all passengers were fast asleep in the back seats. Giving the drivers a little quite time as we went over the day in our heads. I smiled. As we crossed the Indiana border heading back toward home, we witnessed a lighting show that was aboslutely incredible.

Everyone arrived home safe. As I drove back home to my house, I was very grateful for how well behaved and respectful our group was that day. I thoughouly enjoyed my time with the group. I am very proud to be a leader of such an awesome group of kids.

Good is God to us!

Spring is here!

On May 12 we will be going to Sister Kathryn's house to do some yard work. Weeding, picking up sticks, and pine needles will be our focus for this evening. Dress warm....

Unless we have volunteers for the progressive dinner "stations" we will be canceling this event. We need an appetizer, salad, and dessert home to host this event. It is set for this Sunday 12pm - 5pm.

Also, I need to know who wants to go to Great America. We need at least 30 people to get a discount. Everyone is invited. We will need to figure out transportation and have drivers. Only the active youth group member who have helped out with the events will get their tickets paid for. The cost for the ticket is $30. Please let Heather, Judy, Luz or Andrew know right away.

We will be wrapping up in a few week. We also have a car wash set for June 12 from 9am - 12pm. Schedule your time to attend this. This event help support our extra activities.

The youth group leaders will be meeting over the summer to come up with a plan for the 2010-2011 school year. Our hope is to focus on the spiritual side of our faith and attend at least one retreat. However, we are fortunate enough to have several events for our area. Our last meeting is scheduled for May 26. We have had a great year and have been blessed by our congregation's support. During the summer check the blog to see about updates.

He has risen!

This week we will be meeting and taking advantage of the weather being nice. So dress to be outside. Since Sister Kathryn has been in the hospital we may be going down to her house to see if there is any cleanup in the yard that we can do.

Also, we need everyone to bring in a frozen pizza or some type of snack and a two litter of something to drink. This will help ease the financial burden of trying to feed 14 teenagers.

During this time we will also be working on a mission or goal for the youth group. This mission should include works of mercy. How can we help those in need? How can we be better Catholics? What can we do to make this world a better place? How can we fix problem with our social standards? It is clear that we do love God. It shows by us being involved in church and the youth group. But at church it is easier than when we get out into our everyday life. Do you say the rosary, pray or even thank God for everything he has given you?

Since the school year is almost to a close, we will also be working on officer elections and developing bi-laws or standards for the group. This is important for the group so that our faith may blossom.

Have a blessed day.

Alleluia He is Risen!

As we celebrate this Easter Season, we will be enjoying the weather outdoors as much as possible. When we can we will be showing the church our support and help out when we can. However, this meeting we will be having an Easter Egg Hunt for the youth group. Everyone should bring a frozen pizza and a two liter of pop. We will use this for something to eat at the end of the meeting.

Here are dates to put in your calendar now.

May 16 - Progressive Dinner 12:00 - 5pm - We need volunteers to host a part of the meal. We will have a stop for appetizer, salad, soup, main course (sloppy joes worked well last year) and dessert. If you are interested please contact Heather.

May 26, 2010 - Last meeting for the year. We will resume in the fall. Watch for summer events where we are getting together.

June 12 - Car Wash - 9am - 12pm. We found out that 3 hours was enough time to wear out the adults in the group. We need towels, hoses, sprayer, sponges, soap and buckets.

June 21 - Great America - Youth group family members are invited. The bigger the group the bigger the discount. I need to know who wants to go by May 19, 2010 at the youth group meeting.

I am so proud and thankful....

First let me start out by saying thank you to the church and our youth group. We made $937.00 profit at this year's Soup and Salad bar. The youth group once again stepped up to the challenge and did it with flying color. A special thank you to Shannon and Denise. Your help in the kitchen did not go unnoticed. Hopefully you recovered from the dish pan hands you received after washing all the dishes. Be sure to thank the rosary soldality for their help with the desert. (The best part of the meal I think!)

This Saturday 3/6/10 we are planning on visiting St. John the Evangelist Church's Christ Passion stations of the cross. I have always driven past them on Rt 41 but have never stopped. I am looking forward to this. I heard that it is amazing. After our visit we are going to stop by Fred Laud's restaurant for PIZZA! We are charging $5 a person for this to cover the cost of the pizza. We have bigger plans for the money we just made.

April 23 - 25 there is a retreat called the Source and Summit. It is open to high school students only. I really really really want us to go. I will be passing out forms at the meeting. We have the option to stay at St. John to be able to maximize our group's experience and hang out with other youth group members.

Great America - We are going to move the date by one week to June 19. By doing this parents can take advantage of the reading program that offered the free Great America tickets. We are going! I promise!!! Mark your calendars.

See you on Wednesday. God Bless.

This event depends on every one's assistance. Have a wonderful day. God Bless.

We went to DC for the March for Life March, Youth Mass and Rally and all I got was......

13 of our church members went to Washington DC, for what I have to describe as the single most moving experience of my life. Our trip started by meeting several other youth groups and sharing a 12 hour bus ride getting to know them. Not to mention the opportunity to actually get to sleep on a bus!

Since we arrived several hours early. We did some sightseeing. We visited the Lincoln Memorial, the Vietnam Wall, saw the Washington Monument, and stood at the backside of the White House. On Thursday evening, we celebrated Mass with at least 150 other teens. Teens that were there for the same purpose. We all were there to fight for life. But during Mass what I saw was the Holy Spirit working through each and everyone of them. Miracles happened that night it was indescribable. It was awesome to be around that many other Catholic youths. After the mass all of us, by our own choice, went to confession. Then we walked several blocks and toured the National Shrine. The basilica was one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. My only regret was that we only had about 10 minutes to spend there.

On Friday, we woke up at 4am to attend the Youth Rally at the Verizon Center. AMAZING! Followed by a youth Mass that I still find myself signing the music. I do not think my feet touched the ground. Father Paternoster, was one of the several hundred priests, bishops and cardinals, that celebrated the mass. This truly made us realize that we are the church and the church is everywhere. After the mass we walked the streets of Washington DC to march for life. When we were done marching, we took the metro to Rockville, Maryland to St. Mary's Church. The people of this church prepared dinner of several homemade soups, sloppy joes, hot dogs and desserts that had to of come straight from Heaven. With our stomach full and grateful spirit we loaded the bus and headed for home.

I wish I could put into words what this experience has done for my spirit, but I can't. I can only say, that YOU need to be there. YOU need to experience this for yourself. YOU need to be a witness of God's handiwork. YOU will be changed forever.

God Bless.

Ready or Not Washington.... Here We Come..... Hear My Voice!

Wednesday, January 20, for those going to Washington, DC, will be meeting at 6:30pm to load the van and attend Mass. I can say on behalf of my daughters and myself that we are extremely excited to be a part of the March for Life. For those that are staying home. The simple gesture of praying is a way that you can help. Pray that we make a difference and help influence the politicians to change the legislation and protect the sanctity of life.

So as I prepare for the 12 hours bus trips, spending the night on a church hall floor and walking out in the cold with 200,000 plus of our fellow supporters... I stop and thank God that I had parents that believed that all life is valuable. I pray that we make a difference. I pray that my daughters can tell their children that the country that we live in values life and abolished abortion. So that one day they can tell their children and grandchildren; that when you put God first, you can make a difference.

God Bless.
